Yes, I know, another winter wedding board! Well, it’s the season I suppose. Just about every day I find an image that sparks an idea and it gets a little folder on my computer. And the peppermint folder got so big, not everyone made the cut! I definitely have a crush on this theme. It’s feminine, but little bit of blue keeps it from being too cutesy. There are so many great food things you can do: a color-coordinated candy bar, candy cane swizzles for drinks, peppermint bark favors, marbled marshmallows… I sound like that guy from Forrest Gump!
I really love being liberal with the “something blue” for winter weddings. My other board was rustic and used cardinals for a dash of red, while this one has vintage details and styling. Little things like blue-edged antique plates, old-fashioned bows, and (faux) fur wraps tie the look together. I really need someone to buy these blue booties so I can vicariously enjoy them! So cute; I’d love them even more if they had a 40’s heel instead of a stiletto. You could make ornaments as favors. These ones from Martha remind me of something you might come across in an old Ladies Home Journal. I recommend a snow dance to get gorgeous pictures like the one below.
This board was inspired by the idea of Cinderella’s glass slipper, and what a stylish, urban princess might plan with her Prince Charming. The crystal details are sparkly and glamourous, but the shapes are playful. I like the idea of all white flowers, or different blooms in the same color, for this look.
The Jenny Yoo dress is so chic, and I love how the skirt resembles the glass bubbles. If you think about it, the strapless neckline and A-line skirt are similar to a big gown, but without the pouf and frills. This clean look would be perfect for a loft or swanky gallery reception.
So, this is kind of cheating because this board isn’t new, but it’s just right for today. One thing I love about New York is that everyone really goes all out for Halloween. Sadly I have to work tomorrow, but we’re still going out afterwards. We’re going as Jon and Kate Gosselin
. I got my wig yesterday– oh my gosh it’s hilarious! Oh, and if you dress up as a burrito or taco tomorrow you can get a free burrito at Chipotle! (Just wear grey and put some foil on your head. Hey, free burrito.)
The past two weddings featured on SMP have been so beautiful! Purple is already our main color, so I didn’t have get over any hurdles like Abby but I did completely understand her “wedding stalker” feelings over the Keegan/Delesie event. I’ve been fishing around for a new look, and then it hit me- why not mix these two together? Thus this stylish mashup, which is really my new favorite concept for us.
Snippet and Ink featured these Cory Farquhar designs which I found myself unusually attracted to. I say unusual because the style is not one I’m generally wowed by, but I think it’s because the black and white gingham and apple green are so fresh together. Sometimes shabby chic can be too frou-frou for my tastes, but this look is a little country and a little traditional/classy. This palette would also make for a sweet rehearsal dinner or morning-after brunch as well.
I really loved the flowers of Jessica Claire’s wedding, so I designed a board around them. At the center are three J. Crew dresses in a deep red that reminds me of a glass of chianti. I wanted a bit of Tuscan elegance- rustic but still chic. The grand shoulder corsage is so Milan fashion week (okay, a little North I know), while the gold scrolling resembles Florentine paper and the flowers could be from the nearby hills. Of course, you’d have to have vino e formaggio! Perfect for a vineyard or garden wedding.
So, keeping with the idea of cutting back and new ideas I’ve decided to change up what the lovely bridesmaids will wear. I loooove the Butter by Nadia wrap dresses we had planned on getting, but when it seems silly to ask them to pay over $200 for a dress– as awesome as that dress may be –when we’re working with a smaller budget. (I am considering getting one for myself for the honeymoon because jersey is so easy to pack and I can wear if different ways.)
I hadn’t mentioned it before, but I’ve started working at the flagship J. Crew store here in Manhattan. It’s a fun place to work, and *ahem* to have an employee discount. Just a few months ago J. Crew started the “I Do” Desk, a special consulting service which has all of the wedding attire that was previously only available online or through the catalog. It’s only in a handful of stores, since it’s a new venture, and everything is in a sample size 8. I love walking past the fitting room and hearing a chorus of “awwww”s from adoring friends! The appointments are booked 2 to 3 weeks in advance, so if that’s something you’re interested in you should act fast!
And, of course, I’m now looking at the J. Crew collection for my ladies, and how to have casual, shabby chic look. I’ve shown the Sophia, Juliet, and Twist tank in sweet thistle silk chiffon, and they cost from $165-180. I’ve added in the shoes they already have, some different earring looks, and a beautiful bouquet. What do you think?
Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, but there have been some big changes with our wedding and I’ve been busy. My mom is very sick and we’ve decided it just isn’t possible to have the wedding we’ve been planning for almost a year. We’re going to keep things simple; get married in a church in our hometown and probably have a small reception at my parent’s house. I’m okay with the new plan now, but it was hard to let go of my dream wedding. My brilliant fiance came up with idea of having the ceremony stay formal but a casual reception afterwards. That way I’ll still be able to wear my dress, but I’ll get a short white dress for the reception. We’re thinking maybe barbecue if we still have it in the evening, or possibly a morning wedding with a brunch style reception.
It’s just frustrating because now we’re back to square one, researching and finding all new vendors when we should be sending out invitations in a few weeks. Thankfully we didn’t print them yet, that would have been bad! I’m the kind of person who likes having everything set up in advance and I’m kind of freaking out about having six months to re-do everything. We’re cutting back, but you know, I’m still marrying my darling and everyone who’s important to us will be there. There will be plenty of boards as I try and figure things out. (As soon as I have to time to make them!)
Abby posted some great bridesmaid dresses the other day, including two from Simple Silhouettes that I really like. I used the pink rosette-detail one in the board that was featured for Style Guru, and I’ve had the mint green one here saved on my desktop for a while. I love this palette of cool greens and blues. You know how stores have things arranged by color? I get so dazzled when I see, for example, stacks of ocean-from-a-postcard-colored sweaters.
This is a chic, mod take on those colors. While I know the weather is getting super cold, super fast, this would be refreshing for summer. Ladies are getting engaged all the time, and just because you get a ring in September or December doesn’t mean you want to get married in that month. Or maybe are you are, and you just want to savor the memory of that last minty mojito on the beach…
How crazy are those Gucci pumps?! And check out the Vespa!
