A Malibu Wedding…The Look For Less

September 2nd. 2009 | Filed Under | 5 comments  |

I love, love, love finding little ways to save a little money while still planning a GORGEOUS, no-one-would-know-the-difference kind of wedding. Today’s featured Malibu wedding gave me so many great ideas so I thought that I would share my budget tips with you right here!

OK. Here is a breakdown of different ways that you could save a little money while planning a wedding that has this same look and style.

1. Choose a different type of flower. Peonies are PRICEY but Cabbage Roses and Tulip Peonies (a breed of tulip) are about half the cost. Big bunches of carnations would also do the trick. I found this amazing post over on weddingbee about different peony substitues that you should definitely check out.

2. Scout out chandeliers from your favorite thrift shops, flea markets and ebay. You can paint any chandelier gold and hang them from heavy duty wire, covered with a pretty ribbon. For added glitz, drape crystal beads from one rod to the next. If you can find chandeliers that use candles, that is even better b/c you can light the evening aglow!

3. The dress. I found this gorgeous dress at J Crew for $695. Add to it a pretty, vintage inspired beld from Vivienne Vintage on Etsy and you have that same kind of drama. Love it.

4. Umbrellas like the ones from the wedding can be found at Luna Bazzar. Just mix and match the colors using a variety of pink hues.

5. Find an old luggage trunk on ebay or at a local flea market. The more banged up, the better! Fill it with pashminas for your female guests to keep warm. The BEST place to find pashminas for next to nothing is in China Town if you are lucky enough to live in a city that has such a gem.

6. Purchase HUGE jars for different flavors of cocktails from The Container Store.

7. I fell in love with these cute pink dresses that I found on Bluefly and although they aren’t exactly budget at $167, they are perfect for this affair. Other lower priced options would be this As U Wish dress, this Trixi Dress or this super cute Kay Unger dress.

My FABULOUS intern, Elaine…also a recent bride…is going to be sharing her Malibu Wedding Inspired Look For Less in a bit!
